What files should I send for an RFQ?
Send 2D drawings, 3D CAD files, material requirements, quantity, tolerance requirements, surface finish expectations and inspection needs. STEP, STP, IGES, PDF, DWG and DXF files help engineers review geometry and manufacturing feasibility.
Can FSD review incomplete drawings?
Yes. FSD can review incomplete drawings and identify missing information before quotation. Engineers may ask for dimensions, material, tolerances, finish expectations or application details to complete the RFQ package.
Do I need both 2D drawings and 3D models?
Both are recommended. 3D CAD files help evaluate geometry, while 2D drawings define tolerances, critical dimensions, surface finish notes, inspection requirements and special manufacturing instructions.
Can FSD recommend materials?
Yes. If material is not finalized, FSD engineers can recommend options based on application, strength, corrosion resistance, temperature, machinability, molding behavior, casting requirements and cost targets.
What tolerances should I provide?
Provide general tolerances and clearly mark critical dimensions that affect assembly, fit, sealing, function or inspection. Avoid unnecessary tight tolerances on non-critical features because they can increase cost.
